Many industry insiders believe the Web as we know it is being replaced, slowly but surely, by mobile apps. Browsing the web from a desktop isn’t much different than in the past but studies have shown that people on mobile devices are using the web less and less, spending an estimated 86% of their time utilizing apps.
In our Mobile Apps Series TechRecs, we feature the apps that we think are the most innovative or are the most beneficial for small and medium sized business owners. This month we will cover TwomonUSB, Pushbullet, and Jump Desktop.
TwomonUSB
If you are an admitted multi-mon addict, TwomonUSB is the app you have been craving. TwomonUSB converts your iPad into a dual monitor by directly connecting the iPad and your PC with USB. Resolution can be changed easily by customizing display settings and also screen direction can be changed by rotating the pad through automatic tilting feature. TwomonUSB also provides remote access through Wi-fi, 3G network, LTE network so that you can access your computer from anywhere you want. Not only that but, you can use your smarphones and iPad as speakers with the sound display function, even if you don’t have an internal speaker on your computer. TwomonUSB is $8.99 in the iTunes store.
Pushbullet
Pushbullet is a fast easy way to “push” links, lists, files, and addresses from your PC to your mobile device and vice versa. Once you download and install the app, go to the Pushbullet Website, pick which device you want to push to and select the items you want to send. You can drag and drop files from your PC to push, and there are text fields where for notes, lists, and addresses. To push items from your mobile device, tap the apps bullet icon, select the item you want to push and the destination. It’s that easy. Pushbullet is free on the Google Play store.
Jump Desktop
Jump Desktop is a handy app for remotely controlling a Mac or Windows PC from an iPad or iPhone. The app developer, Phase Five Systems has a quick video tutorial covering the apps’ multitouch gestures that replace the standard mouse/keyboard commands. The app also allows users to connect to servers using an existing RDP or VNC quickly and easily. Jump Desktop is $14.99 in the iTunes store.
