Company Shuts Down Because of Ransomware – A Cautionary Tale

Employees of an Arkansas-based telemarketing firm were notified they should find new employment after IT recovery efforts didn’t go according to plan following a ransomware incident that took place at the start of October 2019. After paying the ransom for the key, data recovery efforts did not go according to plan and the company failed to recover full service by Christmas. The company lost hundreds of thousands of dollars because of the incident, leaving the company’s leadership to decide to suspend all services. More than 300 employees were sent home and told to find new jobs just days before Christmas.

What happened to this company is not an isolated incident. There have been multiple cases where smaller companies hit by ransomware attacks have been forced to close down, lacking the funds to pay a ransom demand to recover their data or the ability to rebuild their IT infrastructure.

At The Launch Pad, our clients have the peace of mind that in the event they experience a ransomware attack they won’t have to face making the decision to pay for a costly key to recover their data. Our clients are well-protected with our RevITup™ BDR Managed Data Backup solution, a full image-based backup that allows completed server restores in precise increments. In the event of a ransomware attach, our solution can restore everything from a single email to an entire server and even can act as a fully functional standby server in the event your server is down.
