In the early days of file sync and storage in the cloud for consumers, there was Dropbox. Business users took note of the convenience and flexibility of the application and started storing and sharing business data for easy access while on the move. Soon, file repository services for businesses of every size joined the marketplace, with increased options and third-party services becoming available.
Business-level sync and storage services focus on delivering features that will be valuable to a connected organization. With the capability of letting you use your organization’s existing credentialing system, activity logging and reporting so you can see who’s doing what, and granular user permissions, these applications offer much more that the ability to access and share files remotely. In an blog post for CIO.com, Matt Kapko writes how advertizing and marketing professionals are using the application Box to collaborate in real-time, helping them to “work smarter, not harder”.
In an effort to reduce networking and infrastructure costs, Advertizing agency, Vector Media and communications consultancy Sratacomm eliminated their VPNs and moved a combined 11 terabytes of proprietary data to their Box accounts. Kapko writes, “Vector Media’s 85 active users on Box are now collaborating in real-time, pulling up and revising marketing materials and pitches on the fly and leaving comments for colleagues with every change. When the company prepares to make a presentation for a new account, support staff in offices from both coasts and the heartland can now access information simultaneously and make edits remotely in a manner of minutes.” By eliminating file servers and leaving a bandwidth-constricted environment, Box has enabled these organizations to be more productive and flexible, while reducing infrastructure management costs.
