In 2001, the top 10 websites drew 31% of total online traffic. By 2010, the top 10 websites commanded an astonishing 75% of all traffic on the web. This is a direct result of the number of mobile device users spending larger and larger amounts of time working with apps rather than browsing the internet.
With the number of apps in the marketplace that can do everything from manage your businesses’ inventory, collaborate with remote users, or connect with business prospects, developers are challenged to create apps that are more efficient and and user friendly in order to differentiate themselves.
In our Mobile App Series Tech Recs we feature the apps that we believe would be most beneficial to you when running your business. This month we will cover Jumpshare, Dragdis, & Ubooq.
Jumpshare
We know the web is chock-a-block with file sharing services, from simple applications like Droplr, to more robust services like Box.net or Dropbox. What could a new application have to offer that you haven’t already experienced? Jumpshare manages to differentiate itself in the file sharing market place by offering instant uploads, in-browser previewing of over 150 filetypes, and a way to share sets of files. To share a file, browse to jumpshare.com, drag-and-drop your file or your file set, and share the link to the file through social network links or email. Files will be saved for two weeks. Individual files are limited to 100Mb each, and each set can have up to 2Gb of files. The Jumpshare developers are working on creating user accounts in the future allowing file organization and the ability to store files for longer than 2 weeks.
Dragdis
Dragdis is a nifty web app that takes a different approach to saving things online. Instead of having to save entire articles or websites to a service, Dragdis allows you to save different parts of them. To save text, simply highlight it and drag it to the app bar on the right of your screen, choose the folder you want, and drop it in. You can drag videos from YouTube and Vimeo as well as images for later review. Everything you have saved can be viewed inside the Dragdis web app. If you are collecting material for a project, the app has a section for notes and tags. You can share anything you have collected to your social networks and the app provides an unique url that can be emailed for sharing.
Ubooq
If your business services clients by appointment only, you know how difficult it can be juggling appointment schedules and reminding clients to show up. An assistant is helpful but they aren’t accessible 24/7 and some small businesses can’t afford a full time appointment setter. Ubooq is a web application that allows clients to view your schedule, book appointments and receive reminders via text message. Business owners will receive notifications when new appointments are made so they can easily keep up with their schedule. The Ubooq application is easily implemented and requires just a few minutes to set up. Clients can select and book appointments on the web calendar, will receive an appointment ticket on their mobile phone, and shortly before the appointment, a reminder message will be sent out. Ubooq offers a free trial of 30 appointment bookings with pricing plans beginning at only $19 per month.
